We all were masks until we are walking as fully conscious beings. Awakening in consciousness means gradually, chip by chip, chisseling away at the masks - the layers of protection - the ego self - that we built up since we came into this world. Often even we ourselves can not see them. Self inquiry and reviewing our belief systems objectively, is a starting step to removing the mask.
